Toni Martinez

Scored a hattrick today for the U23s.
With the Geordie bumper out on Friday, surely he deserves a place on the bench, or will our tactical genius stick Ayew up front.

Better than Carroll, Sakho, Hernandez or Antonio?
If not there's not a lot of point.

Deserves a bench spot. Especially if Pea and Sahko start and we need a late striking replacement option. Or Sahko’s back goes after 10 mins

We have no other strikers, he's just scored a hattrick against Manchester United's reserves. He definitely deserves a place on the bench.

Manchester United reserves you say? Oh I've entirely changed my opinion on the situation.

How old is he? I'd say he's close to it's now or never for him. Very difficult for these youngsters now, the chances of him becoming a regular PL striker are probably no higher than 5%

He is 20
About the age Harry Kane was when he couldn’t get a kick for Millwall’s reserves.

Kane is an exception to the rule.
I doubt he will kick around in the stiffs for another 3 years and then burst onto the PL scene? If he's good he needs to start getting blooded soon. He's been impressing for a few years now so he must be wondering what else he has to do to get a chance.

He was sitting a few rows back from me at the Swansea game and looked totally miserable for the entire match. Can't blame, poor sod.

Every time I have seen the lad he looks like a lower division striker to me but what do I know? I could be wrong of course but he certainly shouldn't be on the 1st team bench yet. That I'm sure of...

He took his goals well, but it's hard to predict how he will perform against PL opposition when not given the chance. He didn't look all that in the pre-season matches, but who did really?
The only Man U players who I recognised were Luke Shaw and James Wilson, and I don't think Mourinho has them in mind for his first team. The gulf between PL and u-23 is gigantic.

What Martinez gives is work rate,a target man and the knack of being in the right place at the right time. What he does not do is beat players and is not the quickest over the ground. That said I would be surprised if he would get any starts in the Premiership but would be a good plan B player if you were going to play 1 upfront to see a game out.

Hate to disagree there HAMMERAMA. Martinez wasn't a worker when I saw him. Nowhere near as mobile as AC...

His spell at Oxford probably woke a few people up to the fact that he's not going to be the next Harry Kane. There's a chance he could be a late developer, but if he cant stand out in League One at 19, he isn't going to be good enough for the Premier League at 20. He's a classic example of someone that should be out on loan somewhere.
Bag 20 in League One and we've got a player on our hands.

He clearly is a good finisher so all he can do is keep banging them in. I would have little hesitation in giving him a chance if, say, Carroll and Sakho were both injured or suspended. Decent back-up but will need to take any chances he gets with both hands.

SEANI Maguire is a striker who we possibly didn't persevere with. After being released a few years ago, he returned to Ireland, started banging in the goals again, and is now back in England with Preston North End. On Saturday at Fulham,he assisted Preston's first goal, then scored a lovely goal himself before injury finished his afternoon after half an hour. He's a big favourite with the home fans apparently. I seem to remember Mr Polite/pee wee was also a big fan when he wore claret and blue. GOOD OLD SEANI. ( Don't forget his Irish manager described him as the Irish Lionel Messi!)
